Merzbow

Merzbow es el seudónimo (robado a una obra del célebre plástico germano Kurt Schwitters, “Merzbau”) del japonés Masami Akita, quien hace exactamente dos décadas inició una curiosa aventura artística que ha mantenido con coherencia y tenacidad por caminos independientes. Seguramente no podía ser de otra forma si se tiene en cuenta su oferta estética.

Para definirlo rápidamente deberíamos decir que lo suyo es -si se nos permite el exabrupto- un noise extremo, que se las ha arreglado incluso para llevar a los escenarios a cuyo pie arrastra regularmente a una cantidad de interesados en el experimento sonoro y fieles escuchas hasta de sus caprichos. Ha integrado diversas bandas, por lo general efímeras; se ha dedicado también a la producción y la promoción cultural, y en su camino como compositor e intérprete atravesó diversas etapas: la electrónica, la mezclita (de máquinas con instrumentos tradicionales), la analógica, la “laptopera”…

Su obra empezó a circular por el mundo de la mano de la “movida del cassette” de los ochenta, que a poco andar y hasta el día de hoy fue capturada y globalizada por la internet. Para el fin de siglo Merzbow ya contaba con más de 50 álbumes publicados. [Extractado desde Cuaderno de Trabajo]
